Review: John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End
John Dies at the End by David Wong
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am really stuck between 4 & 5 stars for this review. I really want to give it 5 stars because it was AMAZING. Such an original acid-trip of a story that keeps you confused & entertained throughout. The only reason I can say that I slighted this book its fifth star in my rating is the few story holes that only someone like me would even care to remember. Trust me, this book is going to be one of the best books you’ve ever read. EVER!

I’ve read stories full of action before, but never has the action begun on pg. 1 such as this. From the get go, you are in a web of confusing senerios that leave you baffled, amused, and eager to read on. The thing with the bratwurst made me laugh quite loudly nearly causing me to drop my kindle…amazing. The way [a:David Wong|225033|David Wong|] writes his narration is that of a distressed A.D.D. Schizo patient who just dropped some mushrooms or acid and it trying to explain events through a curtain of madness-in a good way.

Although the story was one of the best I’ve ever read, I have to say that I was confused for the following reasons: John calls Dave after dying in the beginning of the book -not the end of the book- and asks him if they’ve gone to Vegas yet, yada yada… While I understand that John had made several calls right after ingesting The Sauce, I somehow thought they would go back to that at some point.. I guess because I was expecting it, I was sort of personally disappointed when it wasn’t brought back up.

There were also many parts of the story that -because they seem thrown in just for the fun of it- act like static in my memory of the entire plot and just what went down. This causes me to be not only very confused when trying to remember the book, but also sad that it was too messed up to really remember properly in a way that … I don’t even think I could break down the book for someone that hasn’t read it. I may not even be able to really tell -when watching the movie version which will happen soon- if the parts I am watching are part of the book or if they changed anything like movies often do. Seriously guys, that is how much shit happens over the course of the book. SOOO MUCH SHIT!!

But I still say, and will not change my mind on this..
