Sadly, I think its time to call it. I really had high hopes for this book. Based on recommendations, and praise, I really thought I would be able to dive right in and love every word. But sadly, I have found myself bored and actually avoiding reading my bookclub’s book-of-the-month… and because it seems that most of my clubmates seem to share this exact feeling, I just can’t bring myself to even read to the min 15% that we try to ask of our members. 🙁
When a book stirs feelings of subtle repulsion, enough that I end up not reading at all… there is a problem. I love to read! So that is just not-right.
The portion that I did read was okay… the boy is extremely interested in a book, and the author, and reads it in pieces to a blind girl he has a crush on,… and the story just could not have crawled any slower to me. Not to mention the over-bloat of impressive adjectives that, upon reflection, just didn’t help tell the story at all… I don’t feel like I got to know the characters in even the least bit, nor the setting, not even the author in question.
Of course I take into account that I didn’t read much… (I got to 9%, page42, chapter 6)… and I would hope that character development would happen before the book ends… My complaint is that the paragraph above accurately depicts the entire story which is 6 chapters long to that point! That is a lot of words to describe not a lot of action.
Oh well… 🙁
